Advertising is the new most powerful art in the world. And it appears in so many different ways, you just have to be creative and you'll rule the world. Every day we see around 100 advertisements, at the end of the year around 40000. At the age of 65 we will have seen 2 million ads aprox. and 500 billion $ will have been spent on them. Is that normal? How can we allow this?
People are just looking for success, winning is the only aim, thriving and having is the purpose of many peoples life. Why? Because that's what we see! That is what movies, books, ads, magazines, etc. show.
But...how does that affect us? [I REALLY AM GOING TO TRY MY BEST TO EXPLAIN THIS IN ENGLISH] It has a counterpart in our brain, in the reward system, which is powered by a brain neurotransmitter called dopamine. For example, if we win the lottery, we suffer a rise in dopamine, an uncontrolled joy. And if we lose - something completely logical by statistics- our brain suffers a small disappointment, but it does not go further. There is a small drop in dopamine levels, but nothing to worry about because it is an expected loss. So, we actually become ADICTED to adverticements.
That does not mean that, just because we want to go against COCA-COLA's advertisements, now we will never drink COCA-COLA again. Just that, either if there are COCA-COLA ads or not we drink because we like it, not to belong to some kind of comunity.
Sadly, there are 760 million people dying of thirst every single day, and 1900 million COCA-COLA's are consumed in other places in the world. There's people starving and we throw our food.
We have reached a point in history in which we no longer know what we consume, we do not know its impact on our health, on the planet and in our society.
We have reached a point where people do not want to live good, people want to live bette . However, that is unsustainable, it is impossible to maintain infinite happiness for everybody.
Do we want success? Lets spend time on the gift, not the wrapping.
